2014 La Gazette, Ventoux, Domaine des Peyre
Patricia Alexandre recently bought this gorgeous property in the heart of the Luberon, having spent many years as editor of the wine guide Gault Millau. She and her husband have invested a lot of money and effort in upgrading all the facilities at the estate as well as the vineyards and everything is now of fantastic quality. The first vintage of Domaine des Peyre was 2013 and we are delighted to have been representing them from the start. With their ambition, passion and financial clout this is a domaine going places and fast. Various different cuvées are made, each with a name reflecting the journalistic background of Patricia. The Rosé l’Equipe is a blend of Grenache (35%), Syrah (35%), Mourvèdre (20%) and Carignan (10%) from the Luberon. The grapes are harvested at night time to help preserve their freshness and are cold fermented to maintain their fresh, clean aromas. The red wine, from the Ventoux appellation, is known as La Gazette. It’s an even blend of Grenache and Syrah and yields are kept low at around 30 hectolitres per hectare. The juice is aged in stainless steel rather than oak for about seven months.
