2014 Doña Silvina Malbec/Anglianico Blend, Bodegas Krontiras
Established in 2004, this organically and biodynamically driven operation oozes passion and ambition. Not only are the vineyards worked biodynamically, but the winery in which they evolve is built with biodynamic principles in mind and with respect to the Golden Ratio proportions of Phi and Pi. The estate has vineyards in two prime areas. Perdiel, an area famed for its old vineyards and borders the Mendoza River has 120-year-old Malbec and Tempranillo, whilst in Maipu, lots of new plantings of Malbec, Petit Verdot, Aglianico, Torrontes and Chardonnay were made in 2005. These two distinct areas provide high-quality fruit for the various cuvées that are made. The Torrontes is fermented and aged in stainless steel to maximise freshness, and the Fresh Malbec is also aged in steel and best served chilled to highlight its delicious crunchiness. All the other reds are in French oak and offer a real sense of purpose and poise.
