2020 Verdicchio Riserva ‘Cantico Della Figura’, Andrea Felici
Leopardo Felici, son of Andrea, has been at the helm of this small, quality-driven estate in Le Marche since 2008. The family have been praised for producing some of the most elegant and refined Verdicchios in Le Marche. The vines are located in the hilly, cooler climate area between Apiro and Cupramontana, Apiro is the highest ‘Castello’ of the Castelli di Jesi. This area benefits from a unique microclimate and terroir, that produces wines combined with the richness and structure of Jesi, and with the aromatics and elegance of Verdicchios from Matelica. The use of stainless steel and concrete fermentation over the use of wood gives wonderful natural acidity and great transparency. Vineyards are 400-600 metres above sea level and are primarily influenced by the Adriatic sea breezes. The Verdicchio Classico is a blend of old and younger vineyards and is vinified and aged in stainless steel. It spends a few months on its fine lees before bottling. The complex and beguiling Riserva Il Cantica della Figura comes from the San Francesco Cru, where the vines are average 50 years old on a mix of limestone and clay soil. It is vinified and aged on fine lees in cement for 12 months before spending another 6 months in bottle before its release.
