En Primeur Offers:
En Primeur refers to the practice of buying wine at the earliest moment it is made available by an estate. This can be up to two or three years before a wine is bottled and physically available in the UK. Buying at this stage ensures an allocation of the desired wine and guarantees perfect provenance. Though this should never be assumed, buying en primeur has historically represented a low cost of access to many wines.
Our Burgundy en primeur campaigns are split between our January releases and the late releases, which usually appear in July. Typically, Burgundy becomes deliverable in the second half of the year following a January en primeur campaign. Bordeaux is sold en primeur in the late spring and becomes deliverable two years after the campaign. Please note: deliveries may be delayed until the autumn to avoid shipping in summer months.
Our Italian new releases are offered out in April and are a range of vintages, depending on region and wine style. The majority of our USA releases are offered out in September.
En primeur wines are only offered ‘in bond’, i.e. exclusive of relevant VAT & duty. Orders are for immediate settlement, upon invoice. We always require a delivery instruction for all en primeur orders in order to process the wines promptly on arrival in the UK. The following options are available:
– In bond storage with LCB Dinton
– Transfer to another bonded facility
– Duty paid delivery to a nominated mainland UK address
Wine Storage:
Through our storage partners London City Bond (LCB), Stannary Wine offers the perfect storage conditions for your wine. All our private client stock is held at London City Bond, Drakelow Tunnels. Their cellars offer the most advanced climate control equipment available maintaining a constant temperature of 13˚ (+/- just 1˚C). The system considers the number of cases in storage, stock turnover and the rate at which various packaging materials lose heat. Nothing is overlooked, and the premises are guarded by man and camera around the clock.
With a photography facility set up inside the warehouse, we can provide condition reports on request, including of photographs of the numbered bottles within a case, so all items can be checked when required.
And we will provide you with all the details you need to know about your wine, from individual case labels, recommended windows for drinking, market valuations and tasting notes.
It is an unbeatable facility, housing world-class wines in the best conditions possible.

Other ‘Pre-Shipment’ Offers:
Other ‘pre-shipment’ offers (Leeuwin Estate, Champagne, Germany, Rhône etc) are made available throughout the year. These wines are generally deliverable within six months but please check the specific terms of each offer for the full details. As with en primeur offers, payment for pre-shipment wines is for immediate settlement.
En Primeur Tastings & Events:
Where possible, we give our customers the opportunity to taste wines in advance of our key En Primeur campaigns, either in person or virtually. The traditional Burgundy En Primeur tasting that takes place in January is our busiest evening of the year, and is attended by dozens of winemakers and their wares. As much preparation and care also goes in to the annual Italian and USA tasting we run. During Covid times, we are proud to have been the first UK merchant to curate a series of tastings to showcases all our new releases, which culminated in over 300 customers tasting the 2019 Burgundies.
Fine Wine Broking:
Our Broking List, wines that we sell on our customers’ behalf, is a treasure trove of rare gems and older vintages, a list dominated by the Domaine and estates we represent: the perfect place to pick up a mature case or special bottle or two. All wines are of perfect provenance, and available in bond or for immediate delivery.
If you would like to make enquiries about selling any of your stock, please contact privatereserves@stannarywine.com. A member of our team will be in touch to discuss the options available to you and provide a valuation. Stannary may seek to buy stock outright or offer it on a broking basis.
Private Tastings:
The Stannary Team are happy to host private tastings throughout the year. To hear more about these, just speak to your Stannary account manager or please email finewine@stannary.com.
