It’s a genuine thrill for us to release this range that marks an important moment in the life of Domaine des Lambrays.
We have a lot of very fond memories of Domaine des Lambrays and its time under the care of the always charming Thierry Brouin. The 1999 was perhaps the finest vintage he ever made, and it continues to be a wine that impresses all those lucky enough to taste it.
But today, the domaine is well into its new era under the ownership of LVMH and the direction of the hugely talented and precise Wine Director, Jacques Devauges. Together, they are ensuring that this latest period of its history is both its most evolutionary and its most exciting.
Not only has there been a huge investment in a meticulously planned, cavernous new winery and a wonderfully artisanal re-imagining of the interconnecting cellars, but there have also been some thrilling purchases of several wonderful new vineyards, which add significant hectarage to this historical and prestigious domaine.
Over an astonishing dinner at the domaine last November, when we drank bottles from the previous golden era of Clos des Lambrays that spanned the inter war years, including the 1919, we saw just what this unique parcel was capable of in the right hands. And Jacques’ hands look pretty special to us. The quality of wines that he has crafted in 2022 from both the original vineyards of the domaine and from the recent acquisitions have been nothing short of mind blowing. Truly some of the most exciting and emotive wines that we have tasted in a long time.
So, it’s a genuine thrill for us to release this range that marks an important moment in the life of Domaine des Lambrays.
